I’m a late bloomer to cosplay, I have been doing it for just under 2 years. I have always been very artistic but I decided to go to business school for college. I always regretted that decision, but Cosplay has not only given me an outlet for my art, but also my fandom. I grew up in a small town that did not encourage geekery. Finding a community of like minded individuals has been a blessing.

How did you get into cosplay? I was an active member of the Phoenix geek scene and it was only a matter of time before someone asked me, “do you cosplay?” I googled ‘cosplay,’ fell in love, and the rest is history!

Who was your 1st cosplay and why? Thor was my big break on the scene, and it was my first real cosplay. I am very fortunate. I chose Thor because I am Scandinavian so my connection to Thor as a character goes deeper than just a love for the comics. Stories about Asgard were my fairy tails and bed time stories. And I wanted to portray the sort of strength I strive to achieve in my regular life.

What do you geek out about? I really love books turned in to movies. I don’t care that some of the details might be wrong, seeing my favorite characters come to life is magical to me. Game of Thrones was one of my favorite books, and the show has only made the swag for my fandom more available and popular. I enjoy sharing my passions with others! I also really love weird and/or indie graphic novels. I read a lot of mainstream material when I was younger so the change of pace keeps me interested. Saga is one of my all time favorites. I am currently reading The Art of War, a graphic novel by Kelly Roman.

When you’re not cosplaying, what do you enjoy doing for fun? Music and fitness. I love indie EDM and am striving to get better at producing it. And I crave high intensity training like CrossFit and Boxing.

What would your dream job be? The one I already have! I work for myself and travel the country (hopefully soon the world?) It rocks.

What do you enjoy most about cons? Tee-shirts. I have a serious tee-shirt addiction. And the people. I love walking around, seeing and hearing people express their fandom for things I also enjoy. Nothing makes me feel warm and gooey inside like the knowledge that I am not alone in my interests and passions. Sharing that with others is so exciting for me. Random elevator conversations about Attack on Titan, or being able to open up a board game and actually find others who want to play it are moments I live for 🙂
