My name is Alex. I’m 22 years old and I hail from Orange County, California. I am a cosplayer, model, gamer, comic book reader and lover of all things geek. I completed my first cosplay in 2012, and have since made almost 30 cosplays. I am a self taught seamstress and I love recreating costumes from my favorite fandoms. I attend most conventions in the southern California area.
How did you get into cosplay?
Who was your 1st cosplay and why? I made my first real cosplay in 2011. Before that I had always loved making my own Halloween costumes as well as themed outfits for school dances. I had no idea what cosplay was until I went to the Harry Potter premiere as Bellatrix Lestrange in 2011. A stranger who was also dressed up asked me if I ever attended conventions. I immediately did some research and decided that cosplay was something I wanted to try. My first convention was Wondercon 2012. I had such an incredible time that it encouraged me to continue.
What do you geek out about?
Harry Potter is my ultimate fandom. Game wise, my favorite is Borderlands 2. The comics I currently read are Lady Mechanika and Rat Queens. I also love anything having to do with Spider-Man. He is my favorite superhero.
When you’re not cosplaying, what do you enjoy doing for fun?
When I’m not in school I usually divide my time between cosplay, trips to Disneyland (my favorite place!), gaming, reading, or watching movies. If you can’t tell, I’m a total home-body.
What would your dream job be?
I would love to be a red carpet correspondent or an entertainment news reporter
What do you enjoy most about cons?
I’m passionate about it. It’s one of my favorite things to do with my time. Making something with my own two hands is incredibly rewarding. You get a really good sense for your strengths and weaknesses when you learn new skills. I have also met some of the nicest people around through cosplay. I even met my boyfriend at a convention.
